Sara Diamond

Dr. Sara Diamond is President Emerita of OCAD University in Toronto, Canada, having served for fifteen years as president, and remains a member of its faculty. She led OCAD U through its first phase of preparedness during the COVID-19 crisis. Prior to OCAD U she founded and led the Banff New Media Institute and was a senior administrator at The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada.  Diamond holds the Order of Ontario, the Order of Canada and in 2020 received an Honorary Doctorate from Simon Fraser University and the Exceptional Women of Excellence award from the Women’s Economic Forum. She has received two awards as a digital “pioneer”. With a history as an media artist, Diamond now undertakes funded research in data visualization with a focus on communications systems and media, urban planning and transportation, wearable technologies, and data fluency. She contributes texts about the history and current practices of digital media, most recently intelligent textiles, and new media public art, and is active in public policy dialogues regarding equity, Indigenous rights, and public art.  She holds a PhD in Computer Science, degrees in history, media arts and communications and the ICD.D designation.
